Experience with Light and Tactility— Essence of Japan:

I’m always amazed how a single experience of even an instantaneous moment can affect one’s feeling, his or
her way of thinking. And, those moments can remain in oneself and inspire him or her almost eternally. Life at KIDI, for students at least, is tough. We need something to soothe our souls. I tried to create a space where I can hopefully provide such an inspiring spiritual moment, through light and a tactile impression.
I designed one side of the room to be darker, and another side to be brighter. I don’t have enough knowledge of how light affects us psychologically, but I felt that having both light and shade soothes one’s feeling. I used bamboo, as a material for floor because I thought the tactility that bamboo gives you is unique and cozy, and it may remain in you with the memory of Japan.
